Nobody rules these streets at night but me
Atomic Blast Orange Cream

Here we have another of the many many generic type drinks put out by Monarch beverages. Monarch makes a bunch of different energy drinks. Some are good and some are not. I think this one is made for the chain of Sheetz stores. Energy drink heaven hooked me up with this since I have no Sheetz around here. Really I am not sheeting you there are none where I live. This one looks like it will be one of the good ones though so let’s check it out.
Packaging: Well you have to love the 16 oz aluminum bottle. It’s not a work of art type aluminum bottle but it does have a nice aggressive look and feel to it. The big atomic blast logo on the front and the “Caution Energy” at the top scream strong drink at you. The little screw graphics around the top and bottom are a nice touch as well. Still for some reason it all looks kind of cheap. Grade C+ for packaging
Slogan: “Caution:Energy! Handle with care” is about as close as it gets. I feel this drink could have had a cool slogan relating to atomic energy or at least radiation poisoning. You know like “The power of a nuclear blast with out all the vomiting blood and open sores” Ok so maybe that would not make a good slogan but they could have come up with something. Grade D
Taste: I twist open the lid and get a nice orange creamsicle scent. Pouring some in a cup it comes out a slightly cloudy orange color with a light carbonation. Taking a sip I get a nice orange and ice cream flavor. It’s is king of light and not very sweet. The finish is kind of dry and the creaminess is there but it’s not very robust. Don’t get me wrong it is a nice flavor but I have had better cream type drinks. It is a unique flavor but I expected it to be sweeter considering how much sugar is in it. Grade C for taste
Kick/Ingredients: So I drank the whole can and waited for my atomic dose of energy. Then I waited some more, and finally I was at least awake. I had been pretty tired and running on about 5 hours of sleep. It barely woke me up. It did last about 3 hours and there was no crash. I’d say this was more like fire cracker than an atomic blast. It made some noise but that is about the extent of its powerful energy. Ingredients per 16 oz include 100 mg caffeine, 2000 mg Taurine, Inositol, Glucuronolactone, Choline, and a fair amout of B vitamins. There is also 200% of your DV for vitamin C. You get this with 220 calories, 56 grams of carbs, and 54 grams of sugar (HFC). I give this one a grade of C- for kick/ingredients
Web Presence: Monarch has a site but there is no mention of this drink. Sheetz has a site as well but there is no mention there either. That is bullsheetz I say. Grade D-
Recap:
This drink had potential but it looks like they skimped on the caffeine. How can you call a drink “atomic” when it is so weak? It looks ok and it taste ok but they really blew it on the kick and the web presence. I really can’t recommend this drink since it is really not strong enough to justify the calories and sugar you have to consume. I hear it is a bargain price wise but based on my experience I will say that at more than 50 cents it is no bargain.
