Amp Energy Gum Citrus flavor

Ok so when I was at the store the other day I found RockStar and Amp energy gums. Seems like the big boys are jumping onto the gum wagon. While Rockstar really stepped out with a bold Mint flavor, Amp decided to go with their traditional citrus flavor. Both offer pretty much the same ingredients as your average 8 oz energy drink. Let’s see how AMP pulls this off.

Packaging: Cardboard sleeve with foil “push out” pack inside holding gum. Pretty typical for gums. The label itself sticks to the tried and true amp green lines background along with the typical AMP logo. The caffeine amount is clearly listed right on the front. Ok so it is nothing new or exciting but you want to capitalize on your brand so why change to something new. Fans of Amp drinks will be drawn to this right away. Grade C+

Slogan: “Amp Up” seems to be the current Amp slogan and I think it is pretty good. It says energy to you and works perfectly with the name and purpose. Grade B

Taste: So I pop a couple of pieces of Amp gum into my mouth and start to chew. It is sweet and has a nice Amp citrus flavor up front and there is some real good citrus flavor that reminds me of the gum I used to get from Gatorade at the finish. As I chew it and the candy shell goes away and then the flavor starts to fade though I get some bitterness. Nothing awful but then again it is not something I enjoy. I only chewed it for only a few more minutes then it had to go. So the taste is pretty damn good for the first 10 minutes but then it goes bad. Grade C for taste. It a grade of A for the start and a grade of D for the finish.

Kick/Ingredients: So I chewed it for about 12 minutes and then spit it out (no not in the parking lot or on the sidewalk where you can step in it).  At about the 15 minute mark I achieved ampliness . That might be a made up word but the buzz was for real. I was pretty much buzzing and even a tad jittery. If I was not stuck at work I would definitely have had to go outside and do something active like bike ride, shoot hoops, skate board, Base jump, wrestle a lion, or punch someone in the face for no apparent reason. Really I was that wired up. It only lasted for around 2 hours but it was pretty intense.     Amp (2 pieces) is powered by 80 mg caffeine, Taurine, and b Vitamins. Don’t know how much vitamins or Taurine because it was not listed?  You get 10 calories and  3 grams of carbs along with no sugar. It is sweetened with aspartame, sucralose, and Ace k.   Grade B

Web Presence:  ampenergy.com is a nice site. It is a pretty nice flash site but does not offer much in the way of ingredients info. You have sports info on Racing and snowboarding, a store locator, videos, and limited product info. It seems there is less there than there used to be as far as content goes.  They also have a facebook.  I’ll give them a grade of B

Recap:

Ok so as long as you don’t want long tasting flavor and a long lasting buzz this is pretty good stuff. It is a short blast of intense energy which can come in real handy some times for sure though. It is super portable and a great value with 5 servings costing you only 2 buck. I’d have to say give it a try. It is not the best tasting gum but I am sure you will enjoy the ride anyway.
