Amp Energy Shot Jakfruit/citrus
So far I have tried most of the major energy drink company’s forays into the energy shot market. The results have been mixed with some being really good and others just being ok. Now I have another and I’m looking forward to see where it will fall. The new shot from Amp energy.
Packaging: Amp energy shot comes in the usual 2 oz plastic shot bottle. The bottle is shrink wrapped in the green and black that you are familiar with on Amp energy drinks. The label is black with some green vertical stripes. In the middle is the Amp logo which I still have no idea what the graphic in it is supposed to be. Below the Amp graphic is the name “Amp Energy Shot” in a white font with black trim. The word shot is over a portion of the label that looks like it was blasted open by a shotgun. Nice effect there I think. At the bottom is the flavor”Jakfruit Citrus” and “Vitamin Supplement”. The back has supplement facts. Under the lid I have to point out is a secondary seal which is always a good thing. Really the packaging for this looks pretty sharp and I have to give it a grade of B
Slogans: On the bottle you have this “Fast Powerful Energy When you need it” Not bad but nothing really special. It get the message out there that they are saying this is a powerful shot. Grade B-
Taste ect: By Jakfruit I am thinking they mean Jackfruit which from what I have read is an acquired taste. It did have me curious for sure though. Twisting off the top and removing the secondary seal I get a scent that smells like Jolly Rancher apple candy. I pour some in a cup and it is very florescent green like a Mtn Dew but a little thicker. I take a sip and I get a vile bitter taste with just a hint of sweetness followed by even more bitterness. I hope this is not what a Jackfruit really tastes like because it was bad. I tried washing it down with some Dr. Pepper from the fridge but the bitterness remained. I had to eat some salty food just to get rid of the bad taste. There was no citrus or other flavors to be found. I really can’t see anyone liking this taste at all. Who pulled the trigger and said “Go with this flavor”? Grade F- Probably the worst shot I have tried ever.
Kick/Ingredients: Wow I drank this one down as fast as I could. I waited and in about 15 minutes I got a very mild buzz similar to drinking a 20 oz Mtn dew or a cup of coffee. The buzz lasted about 2 hours and there was no crash. So much for the “powerful energy when you need it”. Not powerful at all. So what’s in this nasty tasting shot? 80 mg of caffeine, 184 mg Taurine, 178 mg Maltodextrin, 115 mg Guarana seed extract, 100 mg L-Carnitine, 72 mg D-Ribose,19 mg ginseng, and some B5 and B2 but no B12 or B6? You get this with 40 calories and 9 grams of sugars and carbs. Wow not even close to powerful or long lasting. Grade D for kick/ingredients
Web presence: Well it is a big company so you get a big company site at ampenergy.com. The site has a lot of flash and you can locate ingredients information but it is incomplete for the Amp Energy Shot leaving out a lot of the key ingredients. Not sure why you would short sell yourself like that. Otherwise you will find Racing and Sport info, Store locator, Product info, multimedia, and you can watch some of their Tv ads which are pretty funny. Not a bad site but not as good as a lot of the other big boys like Monster or Rockstar. Grade B- for web presence

I usually am a pretty easy reviewer in that I can find some positives in most drinks and shots. I am easy to please you might say and try to stay positive. I guess I could say the bottle looks pretty cool and many will probably buy this Amp Energy Shot one time based on looks and after that stay far away. I don’t understand what they were thinking. “Hey lets make an energy shot that taste really nasty and bitter and then make it weak and lame in the kick department” I hope I can save you the 2 bucks you might spend on this shot by saying stay away from Amp Energy Shot because it just plain old sucks. With so many other shots on the local store counter it should be easy find one that tastes at least ok and has some real energy in it. If I ever make a bottom ten list this shot will be on it.
