Ed Hardy Light (sugar free) energy drink
Ok so Ed Hardy is now trendy. Ed is the godfather of the tattoo. He really took tattoos to a whole new level of color and design and was a real pioneer with a lot of integrity. I like tattoos but they are not supposed to be Hollywood designer trendy like. I have tattoos and have for many years. To tell you the truth I really don’t like the idea of cool celebrities sporting tattoo designs as high fashion. Still I like the designs on the cans so let’s get to it.
Packaging: Ed Hardy light comes in a 16 oz can. The can is solid black mostly. At the top you have the name “Ed Hardy” in yellow cursive and energy drink just below it in a white font. Then very big in the middle is the Ed Hardy energy drink logo which is of a huge growling tiger head. The tiger is rendered like a classic tattoo design. This tiger tattoo dominates most all of the front of the can. At the bottom you have “For the world”, and “No sugar added” in a yellow font. The back of the can has a big yellow vertical stripe with another Ed hardy tattoo design of a tiger in a hat followed by a blurb about Ed Hardy. The back also has Nutrition facts but very minimal ones at that. I like the overall look of this can and it is probably the biggest selling point for Ed Hardy energy drinks. I will give them a grade of B-.
Slogan: “For The World” seems to be the slogan. I’m not feeling it. It just sounds cheesy and fake to me and sure does not make me think of energy. Grade D for slogan. At least they have one is about all I can say.
Taste: I pop the top and I am amazingly not surprised at the RB clone scent. I pour some in a glass and it comes out caramel colored and lightly carbonated. I take a few sips. I get a light and not too gummy sugar free RB clone flavor. It has that whole apple grape berry thing going on. Not that that is bad and there is no after taste at all. It might not be original but it is a pretty decent SF clone so I will give it a grade of C
Kick/Ingredients: I drank it down over the course of 20 minutes or soo and got a nice mid level boost. No jitters to speak of but not a lot of energy either. For a 16 oz drink it performs more like an 8 oz drink. I was somewhat more alert for 2 or 3 hours with no crash. Energy ingredients are Caffeine, Taurine, Glucuronolactone, and some B vitamins. That is not much and no amounts were listed. There are no calories or sugar at least. If this kick was a tattoo it would be a butterfly on a girl’s ankle not a snarling tiger on your bicep. Grade C- for kick.
Web Presence: Sure Ed hardy as a brand and trendy designer has a website. They actually have their energy drink there at donedhardy.com. At least they have pictures of them. Not a lot else though except where to buy them. Grade of C- for web presence. The site looks nice but is all flash and no substance. There were many pictures of celebrities holding Ed Hardy drinks though if that impresses you.
Recap:
Wow I really had high hopes for this drink. The can help promise of energy with its snarling tiger tattoo design. I felt let down like a burly biker who got hammered the night before and woke up with a tattoo of a dolphin and a rainbow on his fat ankle the next morning. Really if you want to look cool like a minor celeb maybe this is your drink. If you want to stay out late and party like Lindsey Lohan though this is just too weak of a drink. I’m hoping the other flavors of Ed Hardy energy drinks will at least redeem themselves with good flavor.
