Guru Superfruit

You know most everyone is trying to be healthier now days. A lot of people want organic or natural products including their energy drinks. Should they have to give up on taste or kick though? Here comes GURU with a whole line up of organic natural energy drinks. One of their top flavors is the Superfruit. Not only is it organic but it contains some great fruits that provide added benefits.

Packaging: It comes in Guru’s 12 oz slim aluminum can. Around the top is a pinkish peach colored band with the Flavor “Superfruit” printed in red. Below this band is the word “Juicy” in the pink/peach color. You then have the rest of the can in a red to pink fade with many little dots. This is a printed can not a shrink wrapped can. The Name GURU is in large white font vertical on the can. It also reads “100%  Natural - Organic”. You also have the little Guru logo thing which is like 2 opposing arrows. On the back you have supplement facts, GURU name and logo horizontal, and the USDA Organic stamp. I have to give this can a grade of A for packaging. I think it is the color scheme or the word juicy maybe. Either way it is like a subliminal message being beamed to me saying “drink this and it will be succulent and delicious” It was like every time I opened my energy fridge (which has like 40 different energy drinks in it) this one kept calling out to me and I kept gazing at it.

Slogan: Not on their can but on their site. “100% no Crap” gotta love it really. I get dual meanings myself. The first is that this drink has good quality ingredients and no crap. The second is that it has attitude and is for people who take no crap. No matter how you look at it is great. Grade A for slogan

Taste: I pop open the top and take a sniff not knowing what to expect. I get the scent of a nice fruit punch. I pour some in a glass and it comes out a deep rich cranberry red color that is slightly cloudy with no carbonation. I take a sip and at first it is a rich cherry flavor but then it evolves into a super good punch flavor with a hint of lemon at the finish. It’s like if you made a fruit punch from all fresh juices but then it would take months of experimenting to get it just right. Lucky for us Guru did all the work in perfecting this mix. This drink is very rich and complex and really I can say it will be the best fruit punch flavor you ever taste. The flavor comes from pomegranate, Acai, black currant, white grape, lemon, and Yumberry.  Awesome is all I can say. Grade A+ for taste. Definitely in my top ten for taste.

Kick/Ingredients:  I drank this drink pretty quickly since  it tasted so good. In about 15 minutes I was feeling it and it ramped up from their to a full level of alertness. I had a lot of energy with no jitters and generally was upbeat and ready to go do something. Maybe it’s the image this drink has but it had me ready to party. Unfortunately I was at work and they kind of frown on that while I am on the clock. I was able to get a lot of task done  and generally  was in good spirits about doing it. The buzz lasted a good 4 hours and really there was minimal crash. There is no Taurine since it seems GURU is against using Taurine.  This drink is powered by 145mg of caffeine along with Guarana, Echinacea, Ginseng, Gingko biloba. Then you have 20% organic juice, cane juice concentrate, and natural flavoring and coloring. You get 180 calories and 44 grams of sugars/carbs.  This drink is 100% natural and certified organic and packed with powerful superfruits that give you loads of antioxidants and nutrients. Grade B for kick/ingredients

Web Presence:  At guruenergy.com you start off with a bunch of flash video clips they call screen test(there is a way to turn these off but it is not easily apparent) The clips are really fun to watch and include a very diverse group of hip young people talking about GURU drinks. Some of the talk is a little saucy but then that fits well with the image of the drink I think. There is also a ton of information about GURU drinks and the company as well as a store, a store locator, a blog, and just a whole lot to explore. Really it is well designed and fun. I give them a grade of A for web presence.

Recap:

I might actually drive across town to a wholefoods store to find this drink. It is easily a drink I would want on a daily basis. It looks good, taste great, has a good mid level kick, and you actually feel good about drinking it. I could see people from many walks of life enjoying this. If you see one you have to give it a try. Really they have raised the bar for healthy organic energy drinks. Don’t let the organic healthy bit scare you away either because this drink does not taste like your typical health food store product.
